Blue
Basically swimmers ages 6 to 11 based upon skill competency. For a more advanced younger swimmer and more novice older swimmer. Focus continued on learning and developing proper freestyle/backstroke as well as breaststroke technique, turns and starts. Swimmers begin more preparation for meets and an introduction to training. Butterfly is introduced.
Limited meets should be attended.
Silver
Basically swimmers ages 8 to 12. This group is for more advanced 9-10 year olds and most 11-12 year olds. Emphasis continues to be placed on technique; however, training becomes a much larger component of this group. Attendance at 4 workouts (minimum) a week is recommended.
Pre-Gold
Swimmers (skill appropriate) who attend swim meets. This is a competitive training group, so all four strokes are emphasized and workouts are given. Swimmers are expected to attend swim meets. NOT an exercise class- must make a commitment to compete (min 4 workouts/week).
Gold
Swimmers ages 11 and up. This group is for advanced 11-12 year olds and 13 and ups. Emphasis definitely on training, while maintenance of technique remains a primary focus as always. Attendance at least 5 workouts (minimum) a week is required. There is a minimum
standard to qualify for this group. Dry land is included with this group.
Platinum
Swimmers ages 12 and up. This group is for advanced 12 year olds and 13 and ups. A more rigid dry-land exercise program is required as well as at least 6 workouts a week. There is a minimum standard to qualify for this group. This is for swimmers qualifying or striving to qualify for State, Far Westerns and Sectionals.
**A Pre-Swim Team Training Class is offered for those swimmers not yet strong enough to make the White group standards. (Generally 5-6 yr olds.) It is intended for these swimmers to graduate into the White level of our swim team. Swimmers are expected to swim one length (25 yards) of the pool by the conclusion of this class. Infant Swimming Starting at 6 months!
All parents will want to learn more about this important baby and toddler safety skill. Did you know that babies as young as 6 months can save themselves from a fall into the water? Did you know that children as young as one year can swim?
We are happy to bring Infant Swimming Resource to the JCC! This is a well regarded swimming survival instruction course that is taught by certified experts. ISR uses an innovative approach to teach both the verbal child and the non-verbal infant survival swimming skills. Knowing how to make a critical rotation from face down in the water to face up in the water can save your child’s life.
Instruction is one-on-one and carefully individualized to your child.
Dates, times and fees for this infant swim course are still to be determined. Please call Sheryl Rothe at 444-6440 or rothe@swimisr.com for more information.
