Curriculum
Our curriculum provides the foundation for continuous learning and supports the “21st Century Skills” educational framework. This concept is based on integrating the skills of problem-solving, communication and critical thinking in all curriculum areas to develop individuals who are self-directed, life-long learners and productive citizens.
Based on the goals and standards of the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC), we advocate a curriculum that promotes learning as a continuation of cognitive, creative, personal, social and physical development, and incorporates the Arizona Academic Standards.
Curriculum areas include:
- Reading and Language Arts
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Specialties
Why the “J”?
Kindergarteners have their own fully equipped classroom, as well as access to a gymnasium and a library of children’s books. Additionally, they will have the unique experience of utilizing age-appropriate playgrounds, a fenced-in grassy area with shade, tennis courts, and expansive spaces surrounding our facility. Seasonally, they will enjoy water play and swimming lessons in our pool and splash park. Exposure to the arts in the art gallery, art studio, and the one-of-a-kind Sculpture Garden will encourage discussion and creativity.
Working collaboratively with our Children, Youth and Camping Services department, we can also provide options before and after school, and “School Days Out” programming for vacation days (excluding some Jewish holidays), which include field trips and recreational adventures here at the JCC.
