Syrian Cooking Class

Syrian Refugee Chef Shahd will introduce you to Syrian cuisine as she shares her expertise in creating delectable Syrian dishes.
In the spirit of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), The Tucson J is partnering with the International Rescue Committee to host a Syrian cooking class on Sunday, April 30th from 3-6pm in The J’s state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen. Chef Shahd, who is a Syrian refugee and now resides in Tucson, will teach participants how to prepare classic Syrian vegetarian dishes.
Chef Shahd will teach us the traditional cooking techniques that her mother and grandmother passed down to her. The course will feature how to make baba ghanoush, an eggplant spread; kawaj, a Syrian potato and tomato casserole; fattoush salad; and stuffed grape leaves. At the event, Chef Shahd will tell her story of leaving Syria and coming to Tucson. She will also share her favorite Syrian music, teach us how to make traditional mint tea, and we will feast together after the cooking lesson. Tickets cost $65 for J members and $70 for non-members.
