Tiles with Style


Make colorful mosaic tiles of varied shapes and sizes, and use them to fill a wall niche, to make wall decorations or a sculptural tile for your garden, or to cover a table or backsplash. Learn techniques for writing on tiles with fluid glazing or carving. Wall mounting techniques will be taught. No previous clay experience necessary. All skill levels welcome. Six, two-hour sessions with Instructor Gerrie Young.

New! Painting The World Jewish: Basic Watercolor Techniques
Mondays, September 11 – October 2, 2:30 – 4:30 pm

Create your own watercolor paintings and gain a better understanding of color and how to paint with watercolors. You will be learning painting fundamentals while exploring Jewish themes. Ann Marcus Lapidus has been teaching art for over 20 years and currently teaches at the Tucson Museum of Art and at the Temple Emanu-el Kurn Religious School.  She has a BA in Fine Art from Pomona College, CA and a semestrial degree from the Sorbonne, Paris. Students are responsible for their own supplies. An optional supply list will be provided.

Anyone Can Draw and Paint
Tuesdays and Fridays • 9:30 a.m.-Noon

For beginners and  experienced artists. Explore your creative spirit using vari­ous media. Demonstration and instruction at each session, learn to creat art works in the medium of your choice.. Focus on drawing and painting skills, compositions and color theory. Please bring your own supplies and drawing or painting supplies.

Clay with Sway

A scheduled day, leaves no room for play.  Join us in this lab setting to improve your clay skills. Experiment with a variety of tools, try new textures, and some interesting flair, work out the kinks, go beyond your knowledge to fine tune your creations. Sunday Morning Clay Class

Join us in this clay class to improve or advance what you have learned in other classes such as “Clay with Sway” to the next level, or experiment on a larger scale. You can bring your clay knowledge up to date through practice with forms, tiles, the pottery wheel or sculpture.  This class features a variety of ideas, solvable clay problems and multiple techniques. $30 materials fee due on first day of class. Welcome The New Year: A Visual Arts Workshop for Rosh ha-Shanah
Sunday, September 17, Noon – 2 pm

In this workshop, in honor of Rosh ha-Shanah you will be guided through a mixed-media process that invites our reflection on the seven spiritual building blocks (Sefirot) with which G-d created the world. You will create a project that will invite us to reflect on Kindness, Severity, Harmony, Perseverance, Splendor, Foundation and Loyalty. This is a family friendly event. All are welcome! Carolyn King has been a teaching-artist for over 30 years. She has focused her teaching work on Arts as Healing with community members age 3-93.

Join Palate 2 Palette Tucson for an introduction to acrylic painting! Whether you are a seasoned artist or have never picked up a paint brush in your life, this class is for you! Canvases, easels, aprons, paint, and professional step-by-step instruction will be provided. At the end of the evening you will take home your very own 16×20” masterpiece! Artist and Gallerist Yun Gee Park will lead a seminar on the appreciation of art. Tucson’s Yun Gee Park Gallery presents works by leading artists from across the United States, Israel, Germany, France, and South Korea, as well as work by Tucson artists. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Park will showcase items from the Yun Gee Park Gallery as tools for conversation.

New! Coiled Baskets
Monday, September 18, 9 am – Noon
Wednesday, September 27, 6 – 9 pm
Coiling is one technique of basketry used by Native Americans across North America. In this class you will learn three simple stitches to make beautiful coiled baskets and other storage objects. Bring scissors and a steel tapestry needle along with odds and ends of yarn, fiber, wire, string; you may also bring beads and other small objects or use items provided.

Turkey remained the center of marbling for many centuries.  Students will be introduced to the secrets of paper marbling that was developed in 15th century Persia from creating a pattern, painting water and transfer of the image to paper.  Materials are supplied, but bring a smock and your lunch.

Wednesday, October 18 from 6:00pm-9:00pm
Knotting is a fiber technique used to create art tapestry and other household items.  The knotting weave can be done with any fiber with enough grip.  This technique will lead you through the simple materials and methods to bring a unique look to your design. Bring scissors, T-pins, a small foam core board, a small skein of cotton sash cord, odds and ends of yard, cord, string, ribbons, shoe strings, bead and found items or use items provided.
