Cooking Classes at The J

Cooking Classes at The J!  All dishes are kosher and vegetarian. Classes take place in The J’s Spivak Demonstration Kitchen on the 2nd Floor. Please contact Barbara Fenig, Director of Arts & Culture, at or 520-299-3000 with any questions. 

Register for any class with the buttons below, in person at the Welcome Desk, or call 520.299.300. The payment for the class is due no later than the Wednesday before the class date or your spot will be forfeited. In the event you cancel your reservation after 5 pm on Wednesday or do not show up for the class, you will be charged a $20 non-refundable fee.

New! Syrian & Iraqi Cooking Class
Sundays, June 10, Noon – 3 pm

Shahd Baeij, a Syrian refugee, and Azhar Jamal, an Iraqi refugee, will teach you to make Syrian and Iraqi delicacies as well as about Syrian and Iraqi culture. Shahd’s single-session cooking classes at The J have been featured on Tucson’s own Fox 11 News and in Edible Baja and on Tucson Foodie. The recipes will be kosher and vegetarian.

Learn to make the perfect flaky pie crust. Executive Pastry Chef Jaime Lawhorn will demonstrate a pie crust and then walk you through the process as you create your own pie. The class will create several fillings and each participant will have a pie to take home to celebrate.

Learn about vegetarian cooking techniques with Phyllis Valenzuela, from the San Xavier Co-Op Farm. The class recipes will include traditional foods such as tepary beans, mesquite flour and cholla buds: get a taste of the desert with mesquite cookies, cholla bud salad with a citrus dressing, and more!
