Rooted in the Jitterbug and Ballroom styles, this six week beginning progressive series will help you develop strong basics and musicality. No partner or experience required!
Bachata is a Latin dance from the Dominican Republic that encapsulates fun footwork and partner connection. This class is perfect for the new dancer that wants to have fun moving in a safe and supportive environment. Come alone or with a partner!

Three personalized workouts that will be programmed for you and available at The J’s Wellness Center on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. With this program, alumni of BEST Protocol for Osteoporosis will have the ability to workout on different days and times to fit your schedule! No refunds for missed workouts.
This class is a research-tested physical, mental and social stimulation program, developed by psychologist, Sharon Arkin. A senior, memory-impaired participant will be partnered with a U of A volunteer “personal trainer” who will supervise the participant in physical fitness workouts and engage in memory and language stimulation. Fitness Center Youth Orientation
These 30-minute sessions provide an overview of proper use/operation of equipment focusing on safety along with proper etiquette prescribed for fitness centers in general. Each participant will receive a certification badge after completing their orientation to wear when using the fitness center and let staff know that the participant has completed training.

Get away from the Old-School Bodybuilder Splits! This 16-week template program will help you become the STRONGEST version of yourself! With this program you get: 4 workouts a week for 16 weeks, a “pre” and “post” test, email access with your trainer as questions arise during the program and a STRONGER, MORE FUNCTIONAL version of yourself!
Getting Ahead of Menopause-Rolling Program*
Because of the drop in estrogen levels, we women can experience mood swings, hot flashes, weight gain, sleep loss, fatigue and increased risk of bone loss and heart disease. Studies support using strength training and cardiovascular exercise to help slow down the process of bone loss. Weight gain in women 40 years and older is directly linked to higher risks of heart disease. Research shows that consistent weight lifting and cardio exercise can produce a marked decrease in total cholesterol levels and other cardiovascular disease risk factors. Another benefit of exercise is a reduction in hot flashes, mood swings, irritability and fatigue. This class will offer up 30 minutes of weight bearing exercise and 30 minutes of interval training twice a week to optimize benefits of exercise for peri menopause and menopausal women.
Get the Most out of your KNEE and HIP
Have you had an injury or pain in hip or knee? Or have you been told by your doctor you may one day need a total hip or knee replacement? Come join this 4 class series that will give you an opportunity to learn what muscles and movements can help improve the potential of your knee and hip joint. You will walk away with tips and techniques to improve your knowledge, confidence, and skills. This is open to all levels of mobility. If students have had a total knee or hip replacement they must be at least 4 months post-surgery.
Healthy Back-Rolling Program*
Do you suffer from lower back pain or stiffness? Are you recovering from a lower back injury or simply trying to prevent one? Join Colin Easom, certified orthopedic exercise specialist and personal trainer, for this gentle small group exercise program that focuses on lower back health and core stability. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
Four 30-minute weekly sessions, a template to work on your own 2 additional days a week at The J and email/phone support throughout the program. Four consecutive weeks of progressions focusing on core strength and lower back stability/mobility. Non-members may use The J Fitness Center at no additional fee 2 additional days a week to perform template exercises during the program.
JXT is a unique results-based cross-training program designed by one of the world’s top fitness coaches, Brandon Wagner. During the 8-week series the JXT coaches will train all levels of participants to go past their limits through a progressive workout program. JXT provides a personal training experience in a small group setting and simulates the feel of being a member of a competitive sports team.
Krav Maga is the self-defense system of the Israeli military. Designed to build confidence, speed and reflexes, ou can achieve a strong level of technical proficiency in a short period of time. Learn the basic survival techniques as taught to Israeli soldiers. This course is open to women and men with little or no self-defense experience. 4 week class, Thursdays starting July 6.
Lindy Hop Swing Dance
Lindy Hop is a fun way to get exercise while learning the fundamentals of partner dancing. This class is dedicated to educating beginning dancers in both six and eight count swing rhythms. By the end of this six-week series you’ll be jump, jiving, and swinging out! No partner or experience required.
Each month explore a different mediation. Purple Minion Youth Tri Club
This program helps kids develop their swimming, biking and running skills. Kids will learn how to transition between the sports, build confidence and learn the basic USA Triathlon rules and includes a nutritional program and strength training while learning safe and fun training habits.
PWR! Up for Parkinson’s Disease
This is a comprehensive neuroplasticity-principled program that integrates the latest research on Parkinson’s disease and rehabilitation, exercise and wellness. This type of research-based integrated exercise and wellness programming is necessary to counteract the inactivity, motor deterioration and symptoms of PD. This is a proactive program that allows you to optimize your brain change, brain repair and increase your desire to participate in everyday life.
“As a person living with Parkinson’s Disease ( aka a ” Parkie”), I usually shuffled into the PWR! class at The J feeling tired, stiff and sore. But peppy instructor Mary Byrnes and fellow classmates warmly greeted me with gusto. Then, for an hour, energetic Mary put us through the ” PWR ! Moves”, exercises and stretches to improve our posture, weight shifting, trunk rotation and safe transiting. We also did breath ,voice, hand and eye exercises and stretches.. I left each class, feeling less stiff, tired and sore. The class made me feel more relaxed, happier and more in touch with my body. I also enjoyed socializing with my fellow ” Parkies ” As you learn to live with PD, you have got to be able to laugh with others about this often very difficult degenerative neurological disease.”

Senior Shimmy Belly Dancing
Belly Dancing is a graceful and fun type of dance for people of all ages, shapes and sizes! Belly dance movements are low impact and flow with the body?s natural movements. Belly dance is an excellent form of aerobic and strengthening exercise. In this class you will do some light stretching, learn basic belly dance movements and shake your hips to some awesome traditional and non-traditional music!
Senior Swans with Ballet Tucson
Discover your “inner swan “in a ballet class geared for seniors! Gain flexibility, agility, coordination, stamina and grace as you explore the beauty of ballet. Ballet classes for seniors have been shown to keep the body nimble and improve overall posture and mobility. The structure of a ballet class with movement to music helps to increase mental stimulation and is a great way to stay physically active at any age.
